I initially started this message by getting excited for autumn. Back to school overshadows the weather in our younger years and it’s not until adulthood we can truly appreciate the perfect dry, crisp days that await for us in these months ahead. But then this muggy air stuck around instead. I have hope that those perfect fall days are around the corner…but maybe it’s the corner after.
This is my first newsletter. You are getting this in your inbox because I got your email address at one point or another. Eventually I may get a proper email marketing engine, but for now if you wish to unsubscribe, just reply back letting me know. For transparency, these are (and will always be) available on my website. You shouldn’t need to give me your contact information just to know what’s going on with my campaign.
With the preamble out of the way, there are some campaign updates I wanted to share. Since starting the campaign in earnest back in June, my volunteers an I have knocked on nearly 2,500 doors and had conversations with over 450 neighbors. From Farwell to Boynton, I’ve talked about housing, rats, riverwalk safety, traffic, transparency, Moody St, private ways, law enforcement, public works, utilities, government accountability, and so much more. The response I get is tremendous, I never feel more sure about my chances of success than when I am talking with my neighbors. Those numbers will certainly double between now and the general election on November 7th, this is just getting started.
A few new pieces of media have been put out in the past few weeks. The League of Women Voters sent out a survey to all the candidates in the city. You can find my answers here. WCAC also gave all the candidates a few minutes to speak in their You Don’t Say program. You can watch me speak first on the clip here.
I have put in an order for yard signs which I will be ready to hand out hopefully sometime in the next week. I know a few of you have already expressed interest but if you would like to host a little piece of my campaign in your yard/porch/window (and you live in Ward Nine, sorry Mum) please reach out and I can get you a sign.
If you want to get involved, there are lots of ways to help the campaign. Please fill out this form with how you want to help out. To highlight a few:
Canvassing - You can help knock on doors and talk with voters. This is so important and it’s the best way to victory. It helps to learn about what issues are important to my neighbors and gets my message out to them. If you can help canvass (you don’t have to do it alone) I would certainly appreciate it.
Spanish Translation - So many of my neighbors do not speak English and despite my 151 day streak on Duolingo, I’m still not quite up to the level of talking about municipal issues. Acting as a translator while talking with neighbors who are so often forgotten in the political process is crucial to making sure that I’m listening to all the voices in Ward Nine.
Phone calls - There are plenty of apartment buildings that are inaccessible and doorbells that don’t work. We need to hit the phones to reach out to these neighbors. You’ll be given a script and training, it’s so easy to do from the comfort of your home.
Donations - So many of you have given already, thank you. These last final months will have mailers and more events come through and I want to make sure we can reach everyone. Having funding is so important to make sure sure that this time can go smoothly. If you can give via this link I very much appreciate it.
The preliminary elections are coming up this Tuesday. If you have not yet voted early or by mail, please get out and show support for the people you want to see running the city. While the top twelve city council at-large candidates will all advance, a strong show of support will be the boost of confidence many need to finish this election season strong.
Together, only together, we will win.
